Pumpkin Mosaic

The Great Pumpkin Mosaic has been an important fund-raising initiative for the Alliance of Kings Artists (AKA) since its inception in 2005.  Each year, AKA has coordinated the creation of a new Mosaic.  The latest Mosaic is the work of 21 local artists representing a variety of different styles and media.  Each artist receives a small numbered/lettered piece of a larger picture and is asked to reproduce it on a Masonite tile using his or her own medium and unique style, all without ever having seen the whole picture. Once completed, the artists return their tiles and they are pieced together to form the Mosaic. The public and the artists see the Mosaic for the first time when it is unveiled during  Pumpkin Fest in Wolfville each Fall.

The unveiling of the new Mosaic is eagerly anticipated each Fall - for both the discovery of the new image and the drawing of the winner of the previous year's Mosaic.  A $5 ticket gets you one chance at winning this 'great pumpkin-sized' piece of art (valued at more than $5000).  Funds raised through the Mosaic project create awareness for AKA and help to support its projects and programming.

The 2011 Mosaic was unveiled at the Wolfville Farmers' Market during Pumpkin Palooza, October 8th and 'gifted' to the Market by the artists of AKA in commemoration of their move to their new permanent home.
